Brand Philosophy
The Premier of China's Nine Great Herbs
According to the Daoist Canon compiled during the Tang Dynasty's Kaiyuan period, there are nine great herbs in China, with Dendrobium ranking first. It is said that in folklore, when someone is on their deathbed, people would try to feed the patient fresh Dendrobium juice, and the patient would miraculously regain consciousness. Therefore, Dendrobium is also known as the "Life-Saving Herb."
"Shi" refers to the environment in which it grows, as wild Dendrobium grows in crevices of cliffs and steep rocks. "Hu" was an ancient measuring tool (ten dou of rice equals one hu), and during the Qin and Han dynasties, it was also a wine goblet used by the royal family, symbolizing nobility and status. Naming it "Hu" also indirectly highlights the rarity and preciousness of Dendrobium. Dendrobium is known as "the gold in medicine." The Shen Nong's Herbal Classic records that "Dendrobium, if taken for a long time, can strengthen the intestines and stomach, make the body lighter, and prolong life." Modern science has also proven that Dendrobium has excellent effects on stabilizing blood sugar, lowering blood lipids, and enhancing immunity. Especially for women who consume Dendrobium regularly, it can effectively improve symptoms of menopause and has obvious effects on beauty and anti-aging. Therefore, Dendrobium is Dr. Plant, has a history of thousands of years.
Dendrobium Active Essence
Professor Pei Shengji, the founder of Chinese ethnobotany and the chief scientist of
DR PLANT, has dedicated over 60 years to plant research, focusing on studying plants effective for skin care based on local resources and China's rich traditional literature. Dendrobium is a Chinese skincare plant highly recommended by Professor Pei. Led by Professor Pei, the R&D center of Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, combined ancient Chinese literature with modern research to study the active chemical components of Dendrobium, effectively utilizing this traditional plant resource by integrating the efficacy described in literature with modern research findings. The R&D center discovered that Dendrobium is rich in polysaccharides, amino acids, vitamins, and other nutrients, possessing skincare benefits such as moisturizing, firming, and anti-wrinkling. Grown at an altitude of 1,600 meters, Dendrobium from the mountains boasts purer and richer active ingredients due to its environmental characteristics of high altitude, constant sunshine, and large diurnal temperature variations. Through patented research and development, Dendrobium active essence (Dendrobium oligosaccharides and their derivatives) has a smaller molecular weight and higher activity compared to traditional Dendrobium polysaccharides. The center has also prepared Dendrobium oligosaccharides with a purity of over 99%, clarifying the anti-aging effect of Dendrobium oligosaccharides on skin.
Organic Cultivation and Extraction
Wild Dendrobium grows on cliffs and has low reproductive capacity. Coupled with overexploitation, it has been listed as a second-class protected plant in China. To maximize the protection of wild plants while continuing the miraculous effects of Dendrobium for thousands of years, "Kunzhi No. 1" is a domesticated variety developed by scientists at the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is a preferred variety after simulated wild planting and organic cultivation.
Market Launch
Positioning itself as "Alpine Plants, Pure Skin,"
DR PLANT pioneered the alpine plant skincare category and launched its Dendrobium Orchid Skincare Series in 2017, with over 100 SKUs to date. After 86 years of market validation, this series has been well-received by members, with sales exceeding 302.9 million units. It has also been exported overseas and launched simultaneously in Japan (in 2023, according to Euromonitor International, DR PLANT's Dendrobium Skincare Series achieved the world's top retail sales).
Community Planting to Protect Native Plants
While benefiting from alpine plants, DR PLANT also understands the importance of giving back to them. Over the years, it has adhered to biodiversity conservation. In 2017, it initiated the "Biodiversity - Alpine Plant Protection Initiative," aimed at protecting, preserving, and developing ethnic biological and cultural resources. A "National Biological and Cultural Demonstration Garden" was established in Manyuan Village, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, to actively promote community planting.
